Principles of Equity

The Principles of Equity were developed by the Task Force and adopted by the LA County Health Agency to transform its practices to ensure equity. (Updated Nov. 2023)

Task Force Advocacy

The Task Force has written the following advocacy letters on multiple community health-related issues.

• Letter to the LA County District Attorney in support of their Restorative Enhance Diversion for Youth (REDY) Program
  
  This letter supports the DA's REDY Program to support youth's likelihood for health, stability and rehabilitation in response to the public health impacts of incarcerating youth.
  
  
• Letter addressing recommendations on the plan for closing Men's Central Jail
  
  This letter prioritizes key recommendations for immediate action for the Board of Supervisors to address COVID-19, racial justice, Alternatives to Incarceration, and the closure of Men's Central Jail.
  
  
• Letter addressing Law Enforcement in Health Care Settings
  
  This letter requests the Board of Supervisors prioritize action on the October 27, 2020 motion, “Promoting the Health and Safety of Patients, Visitors and Employees on the County of Los Angeles’ Medical Campuses.
  
  
• Letter addressing Alternatives to Incarceration Final Report
  
  This letter provides recommendations to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for addressing COVID-19, health inequities, and racial disparities through the implementation of recommendations made in the Care First, Jails Last Alternatives to Incarceration Workgroup (ATI) Final Report.
  
  
• Letter addressing the Vision Zero Action Plan

This letter provides recommendations to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors regarding the Vision Zero Action Plan. (Sent April 2020)

• Public comment letter regarding the Baldwin Hills Community Standards District Periodic Review
  
  This public comment letter provides feedback and recommendations to the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning's Land Use Regulation Division regarding the 2019 Baldwin Hills Community Standards District (CSD) Periodic Review II Draft Report. (Submitted November 2019)
  
  
• Letter responding to the City of Los Angeles Oil and Gas Health Report
  
  This letter provides comments and recommendations to the City of Los Angeles Mayor and City Council in response to the City of Los Angeles’s “Oil and Gas Health Report” for Council file #17-0447. (Submitted October 2019)
  
  
• Letter addressing the development of the Office of Violence Prevention
  
  This letter provides recommendations to the Los Angeles County Office of Violence Prevention County Leadership Committee regarding the development of Office of Violence Prevention. (Submitted April 2019)
  
  
• Letter addressing establishing an Office of Oil & Gas Administration and Safety Compliance
  
  This letter provides recommendations to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors regarding a Board Motion directing various County agencies to explore the feasibility of establishing an Office of Oil and Gas Administration and Safety Compliance. (Sent April 2019)
  
  
• Letter addressing the Protection of Immigrant Families’ Access to Health and Social Services
  
  This letter supports the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in preparing official public comments to the U. S. Department of Homeland Security on a draft immigration rule that could impact the well-being of populations served by the County. (Sent July 2018)
  
  
• Letter addressing Los Angeles County Health Inequities through Measure A Guidelines
  
  This letter encourages the Regional Park and Open Space District to use specific criteria in the development of guidelines to allocate funds for the Safe, Clean Neighborhood Parks and Beaches Protection Measure of 2016 (Measure A). (Sent November 2017)
  
  
• Letter to the LA Archdiocese regarding the termination of the property lease with the operator due to the potential risks to the health of nearby residents.
  
  This letter requests the termination of the lease with the operator of an oil extraction site in South Los Angeles (Sent September 2017)

Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP)

The Task Force plays a key role in developing the Department of Public Health’s Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), a multi-year strategic plan for Department of Public Health (DPH) and community partners to collectively build equitable and healthy communities. As leaders from various sectors that impact public health, Task Force members apply their diverse perspectives to prioritize critical equity issues and set long-term goals that require strategic collaboration to achieve. For our next CHIP, the Task Force selected these three priority areas: 1) environmental justice; 2) affordable housing; and 3) violence prevention. Fully believing that partnerships are key to achieving success in these three arenas, the Task Force co-hosted with DPH a number of community meetings with diverse stakeholders to identify key strategies for the next CHIP. Similarly, the Task Force was a strategic partner when developing our current CHIP, and members prioritized the protection of public health near neighborhood oil and gas development sites as a key focus of the current CHIP’s implementation efforts.
