BACKGROUND
In October 2015, a natural gas leak was discovered at
the Aliso Canyon Storage Field. Odors affecting
residents in the Porter Ranch area have been reported to
the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Natural gas contains components such as methane and
mercaptans, which could cause a health threat to people
and animals. Health information on the effects of the

RISK TO ANIMAL HEALTH &
RECOMMENDATIONS
Just like people, animals may
also become sick from increased contact with some
compounds found in natural gas. At
this point, little is known of the effects of the
on-going gas leak on animals.
If you live in the area affected by the leak please keep
your pets indoors. If you notice
any of the following in your animals, please contact
your local veterinarian:

Difficulty breathing

Vomiting
-
Lethargy
-
Nausea
Leaving the area of the leak
may reduce the adverse effects of the natural gas in
people and animals.
