Trauma Prevention Initiative: Capacity Building

Training & Technical Assistance (TTA)

TPI invests in building capacity of grassroots organizations with violence prevention and intervention programs. The County of Los Angeles Probation Department invested in TPI to expand their technical assistance project countywide during 2020.

As a part of its upstream approach, TPI invests in building the capacity of local community-based organizations (CBOs) providing violence prevention and intervention services. Through investment from the Los Angeles County Probation Department and in partnership with the current contracted agency, The Los Angeles Centers for Alcohol and Drug Abuse, twenty-five local CBOs serving youth and families involved or at risk of involvement in the justice system or impacted by violence and trauma are selected for each cohort. The goal is to build capacity and enhance delivery of community violence intervention and/or prevention services in Los Angeles County while addressing the organizational challenges of serving individuals and communities disproportionately impacted by complex trauma, inequities, and shared root causes. Peer to Peer Violence Prevention Learning Academy

Peer to Peer (P2P) develops infrastructure to support peer specialists such as promotoras, peer advocates, and community health and intervention workers. P2P will pilot a curriculum to cross-train peer specialists in healing, self-care, trauma-informed practice, and connections between forms of violence. Peer-system navigation teams will be established in TPI Communities to improve access to services and build career pathways.
