Oral Health Spotlight
Description
December 2021 Spotlight
This holiday season may bring great cheer, however, also it can bring along with it candy, cookies, pies, and a host of other sweets! So, with tooth decay being the most common chronic disease in the world, and gum disease the leading the cause for tooth loss in adults, how can one enjoy the holiday season and keep their oral health intact?
- Limit sweets to mealtime. During mealtime is when more saliva is produced, helping to wash away sugars on your teeth.
- Drink plenty of fluoridated water. Drinking water help to keep your mouth moist and clean and rinses away food and sugars that can stick around in your mouth and on your teeth. Also, fluoride helps prevent tooth decay.
- Choose fruits and veggies. Eating fresh and crisp fruits and veggies can help clean your teeth of sticky bacteria (germs); and are good for the health of your gums and overall wellbeing.
And remember to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes, and floss daily!
