Important Update: New Permit Fees and Categories for Mobile Food Facilities

Please note important updates approved by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on February 6, 2024. These updates pertain to health permits, fees, and services for mobile food businesses and took effect on March 6, 2024. Expect to see these changes reflected in your upcoming annual bill, scheduled for distribution in May 2024.

Key Changes Include:

  1. New Terminology:

    • Food carts will now be known as Compact Mobile Food Operations (CMFOs).
    • Food Vehicles or Trucks will be referred to as Mobile Food Facilities (MFFs).
  2. Updated Fees and Permit Categories:

    • We have introduced new annual permit fees and categories for CMFOs and MFFs.
    • There are also new MFF Support Fees and plan check fees/categories for both CMFOs and MFFs.
    • Please refer to the New Mobile Food Facilities Fee Schedule for fees and categories.
  3. New Plan Check Pre-approval:

    • Designers and manufacturers can now utilize a single pre-approved Standard Plan to produce multiple CMFOs. For more details, please contact our Plan Check program at (626) 430-5560.
  4. Expanded Commissary Options:

    • CMFOs can now be stored at approved private homes through a Home Storage Endorsement.
    • Approval is also available for CMFOs to use a permitted permanent food facility for food preparation, service, and storage.
